There are two important points to understand when either embarking on DVD scratch repair, or are considering a DVD to repair.
First, the majority of scratches on DVDs should not really on the playability of the disc in question provided that you reasonably good quality software to access the disc contents. In most cases the real solution to all problems playing is the use of high-quality software that has built-in correctionSkills.
Second, if you really go to try, DVD repair, scratched then there is nothing unusual, technical or mystical about the process. DVDs, CDs and Game Discs are made of a hard plastic called polycarbonate clear. The repair of scratched DVDs is nothing more than an exercise in polishing or re-covering a piece of polycarbonate plastic. So if you feel a little nervous, it tries ... relax!
As I have already mentioned there are many, many methods touted about for removing scratches from CDs, but as an important note: None of this points to the new Blu-Ray discs apply. Blu-Ray uses a different type of plastic to the windows and one of the methods mentioned here certainly destroyed in a Blu-Ray Disc Score create.
So what really is DVD scratch repair?
Actually, it is simply a method of polishing using various readily available products on a piece of plastic. The only difference in the various productsrecommended, the degree of abrasiveness will offer everyone.
To put it simply, if you have dirt, finger prints or some strange substance the children on the disc, then you can use isopropyl alcohol or a weak solution of detergent. Rinse and buff with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth.
For light scratches or minor scratches can be toothpaste or furniture polish (like Pledge) to use in the immediate vicinity of the scratch again make sure you clean the productthoroughly then buff.
For slightly deeper scratches you can persist with the toothpaste or go to the Kronstadt (Yes, Brasso!) Or car polish. At this level of abrasiveness, it is important to the entire surface of the disc rather than just working the scratches itself, this is to avoid a kind of "micro-valley" in the disk, which can cause refraction (bending of light) of the laser beam, as it passes through the plastic disc. The result of this can disc read error. In addition, usestraight lines from the center of the disc at the outer edge.
Finally, if you feel like pulling out the big guns! Go to the hardware store and get some 3000 grit sandpaper. This is the stuff they use to polish again with cars. Use the paper evenly score the entire disc until you have taken the surface to feel the level of the scratch. Then go back to the Brasso or car polish and polish until the gloss of the plate back. Do not worry! It will!
Of course, the real point inthe idea of all this, backups of all your discs. Let's face it, children pass through and so does other things too! It is more than advisable to get a very good quality of DVD copying software and make backups of all your discs. These days discs are cheap, it is the content of this value, and in the case of family photos or videos, priceless.
For the purposes of backups it is important to understand that not all DVD copying software is created equal. Most DVD copying softwareis exactly what ... an exact copy.
DVDs, whether pressed commercially or made into a DVD burner is always at least a degree of error. That's just part of the process and not unusual. Playback software is designed to notice the error and you, the viewer to compensate for anything. Ordinary DVD copying software is faithfully copy the existing errors on the disc and will probably add some of his own new to your copy when you burn it.
Therefore I recommend only threeBrands of DVD-copying software. DVDFab, 1Click DVD and DVD ClonerV. The reason why I use them is that they have damaged discs with integrated error correction functions, the repair of the internal defects of the disc and reading skills scratched or "excellent".
